A Simple Way to Support People Experiencing Loneliness and Isolation
Social prescribing teams often support people experiencing loneliness or isolation and looking for practical support at home. They work with people whose needs are not medical, but still have a significant impact on their wellbeing. Loneliness, isolation and a lack of day-to-day support can affect confidence, independence and quality of life. Homeshare offers a simple, practical option to explore.
It brings together older people who have a spare room with carefully vetted younger people who provide companionship and around 10 hours of light practical help each week, in exchange for affordable accommodation.
For many people, this creates meaningful connection and everyday support that helps them feel more confident and settled at home. Learn more about how Homeshare works →

Working with Social Prescribing Teams
We work with social prescribers and link workers to provide a simple, supportive pathway for people who may benefit from Homeshare.
We can provide:
• information for individuals
• support for link workers
• simple referral routes
• short introductions or briefings and leaflets for teams
When to Prescribe Homeshare
Homeshare may be worth exploring where someone:
• lives alone and is feeling isolated
• would benefit from regular companionship
• is beginning to struggle with day-to-day tasks
• lacks confidence living on their own
• wants to remain in their own home and has a spare room
It can be particularly helpful where there is a sense that a small amount of support or connection could make a big difference.

Referring someone to Homeshare
If you support an older person who may benefit from companionship and light practical help at home, introducing them to Homeshare is simple.
Step 1 – Share the idea
If someone you support is feeling isolated, less confident at home, or looking for a way to remain independent for longer, you can introduce Homeshare as one possible option.
Step 2 – Put them in touch with us
You can either share our details directly with the individual, or make an introduction to our team by email or phone call.
Step 3 – We take it from there
If Homeshare seems like a good fit, our team will talk things through, answer any questions, carry out the necessary assessments and guide the person through the next steps with care and sensitivity.
We are always happy to have an initial conversation if you would like to discuss whether Homeshare may be appropriate for someone you support.
